menswear
i've been immersing myself in the spring 2011 menswear collections that just previewed in milan and paris and while i was planning on doing a full review on my favourite shows, i just have too much to say and too little time and plus, all the other bloggers bet me to it.
however, here are some looks from my favourite shows that i will be attempting to replicate this summer.

i heart london
inspired my good friend johanna @ trendy gourmandise, i set out this weekend to fall in love with london all over again.what i love about paris, is how much parisians love their city. they embrace their culture, are proud of their landmarks and truly believe, there is nowhere in the world quite like their beloved paris.
we in britain, on the other hand, seem completely repulsed by everything that defines our nation.
i am one of the many million londoners who everyday roll their eyes at the group of american teenagers lost on the tube, lose my patience at visitors failing to grasp the simplest of sentences and angrily push past the japanese paparazzi when trying to cross piccadilly circus to get to boots.
i have lived here (round two) for almost 7 months now, sure i have my favourite parts of the city which are unique to london and there is the odd tourist to be found but it had been years since i had taken in the sights. the sights renowned for being quintessentially london.
on saturday afternoon, i hopped on the tube to westminster to begin my trail of rediscovery.
i crossed over from big ben to county hall and had the most pleasant walk along the thames until i reached millennium bridge and walked to st pauls to pause for lunch.
it really was the most pleasant experience, it was a beautiful day and the one thing that struck me was how happy everyone i passed seemed to be. as if we were all on this journey along southbank together, united in the joy of fair london.
this city can be hard, it can be cruel, it is chaos all the time and you can sometimes question, is it really worth it?
the big ben may not be quite as nearly impressive as the eiffel tower, the sun does not shine over trafalgar square in the same way it shines on place de la concorde but london's charm is undeniable.
and sorry paris, we definitely have one over you when it comes to our fashion sense.

after spying carine roitfeld at every show in paris when i was over for fashion week, i've become a little obsesseda classic example of how every woman should be

fish tank
last night, i sat down to watch the latest movie from director andrea arnold, "fish tank."i had been desperate to see the film for months after being blown away by arnold's previous venture, "red road".
like her previous film, "fish tank" deals with the lower class of british society, whose tales are often left to the confinements of the jeremy kyle show on a weekday morning. "fish tank" tells the story of 15 year old outsider mia, who lives on a tough essex council estate with her equally rebellious younger sister and volatile mother, played brilliantly by kierston wareing. mia dreams of a way out of her banal existence and pursuing her dream of being a street dancer. with the arrival of her mother's new boyfriend, played by an always wonderful michael fassbender, mia's world looks set to change forever.
arnold's talent as a director and storyteller is astounding, her unflinching approach to showcase the harsh reality of britain is certainly admirable, we may not want to admit it but stories such as mia's exist and deserve their place in the world too.
like "red road" before it, the use of lighting and imagery in "fish tank" is breathtaking, you are immediately drawn in and literally feel as if you are a fly on the cigarette stained wall.
the way arnold builds her characters is nothing short of remarkable, complex and seemingly unlikeable as they may be, you cannot help but pray that a happy ending is around the corner.
however, the real revelation in "fish tank" is the performance of newcomer, katie jarvis. discovered by a casting agent while screaming at her boyfriend across a railway station platform, jarvis instills all the emotional depth needed for our protagonist, a girl who knows all to well about having an ambition cast aside.
i highly recommend rushing out for your copy of "fish tank" and witness the very best that british cinema has to offer.

highlights from london fashion week aw10
pam hogg, i was lucky enough to attend the pam hogg show and it was unbelievable. the styling, the clothes, the music, the models. perfect. highlights included the legendary siouxsie sioux opening the show and jethro cave stopping girlfriend sophie willing for an embrace as they passed on the runway. p.s. see if you can spot me in the background of the dellal photos ;)
vivienne westwood red label, the only look to grab my attention from this show. dame viv stuck to her rulebook for her latest collection. i wish she would bring her main label to london but hey ho.
ashish, loved what ashish did with layering for next season. this is the most accessible look and easiest to reproduce on a budget.
christopher kane, kane's speciality lies in making the unfashionable desirable and wearable. i'm not sure how i feel about the flowers embroidered on leather, time will tell. currently lusting over the lace shirt with leather collar.
unique, let's all get ourselves down to topshop next autumn for antler caps, stick on monobrows and harness chest-pieces. camping just got a lot more fun.

house of holland, it's been a few seasons since henry impressed with a collection. this season was no exception, boring, boring, boring. although this bandana print jumpsuit inspired by new york girl gangs is so wrong, it could be right, if you squint.
